This article is intended for admins who organize security awareness activities within Guardey. It explains how the group vs group leaderboard works, how scores are calculated, and how competition can be used to increase engagement across your organization.
Understanding the Group vs Group leaderboard
The group vs group leaderboard allows departments, teams, or offices to compete fairly against each other. Performance is calculated based on averages, so both small and large groups can participate on equal terms.
The leaderboard shows results at different levels:
- Organization level
- Group vs group
- My group
-
Global
What the leaderboard displays
Each group is measured by the following averages:
- Number of completed challenges
- Total XP score
- Loyalty XP (based on streaks)
- Seasonal XP (XP + loyalty XP)
Learn more about the scoring system
This gives admins a clear overview of team progress and engagement within the organization.
The group vs group leaderboard is automatically linked to seasonal leaderboards when this feature is enabled:
User status handling
- Paused users: Users who are paused are not included in group averages, so they do not impact scores.
- Deactivated users: Do not count toward group results.
-
Users/groups not yet started: A group only appears on the leaderboard once at least one user is activated and has started. Users who have not yet started do count toward the group averages.
Users in multiple groups
Users in multiple groups: Users can belong to multiple groups, but they have only one primary group. They are only counted for leaderboard competition in their primary group.
Leaderboard
The leaderboard gives a clear overview of performance at both individual and group level. It displays:
- Your personal results
- Your group’s results within the organization
- Average completed challenges per group member
- Average XP score of all group members
- Average loyalty XP of the group
- Average seasonal score per group member
Using competition with group vs group
Competition is an effective way for admins to increase employee engagement with Guardey and to drive structural behavioral change in security awareness.
Benefits of running competitions
- Increased engagement: Employees are motivated to take part in challenges and phishing simulations.
- Higher adoption and participation: Organizations running competitions consistently see higher activation rates.
- Cultural shift: Awareness becomes more than compliance, it turns into a core value.
- Fair play: The group vs group leaderboard uses averages, allowing fair competition for all team sizes.
-
Consistent engagement: Regular competitions help maintain long-term participation.
Forms of competition
Individual competition
Employees compete individually by earning points through:
- Weekly challenges
- Bonus challenges
Team competition (group vs group)
Departments, teams, or offices form groups and compete against each other based on averages.
Tip: For best results, we recommend linking competitions to real rewards such as gift cards, team outings, or gadgets.
